Nickname: Twin, Wazza
Connor was born in Rotherham 7 minutes behind his twin brother Callum. He went to Anston Greenlands Primary School and was introduced to rugby in Year 5. His first memory of rugby is turning up to Dinnington RUFC in his school PE kit, white t-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps.
After primary school he joined Dinnington Comp. where he continued his rugby playing with his brother. At that time both boys played in the backs. Connor played Fly-half with his brother outside him at Centre.
In Year 10, Connor made the move to prop on the opposite side of the scrum to his brother who made the same transition. At the time Connor’s father, Cliff, worked as a welder for T.H.E Section Bending Company. To help with his sons’ transition to the front row Cliff fashioned a scrum machine in the company workshop and took it home for his sons to practice their set piece. The machine was complete with water barrel that could be filled to make scrummaging more challenging (picture below).
Towards the end of Year 10 Connor joined Yorkshire Carnegie Academy and stayed in the programme all the way through until its separation from the club.
After high-school, Connor joined Bishop Burton College and played for the first team in the ACE programme. In 2019 he joined Leeds Beckett University. It was while playing for the University in the Ventur Cup that Phil Davies took note of Connor’s potential and asked him to join the Leeds Tykes senior squad.
Connor is currently working as a part time plasterer and is focusing on developing into a full time rugby player.
Connor’s rugby hero is Greg Inglis and his favourite book is Biff, Chip and Kipper.
