Leeds Tykes

Leeds Tykes Community Programme

Leeds Tykes have a community programme that has been running since the Spring of 2021. Since then, a great number of young people and adults have benefitted from the sessions and resources provided.

The aim of the community programme is to promote rugby to all in the Leeds area, increasing participation and involvement in the game, promoting the values of rugby and creating a link with community clubs and schools to Leeds Tykes.

We have highly qualified coaches who plan and deliver a range of rugby sessions that meet the needs of the group. ‘Introduction to rugby’ sessions are perfect for younger primary school children while more advanced coaching is used for high school students and adults. At the forefront of every session in the community are the values that the game of rugby promotes. They are what makes our game so special, fulfilling and worthwhile introducing to as many people as possible!

Running the community programme would not be possible without the support of some fantastic businesses that contribute to the programme by providing equipment such as balls, tackle pads, bibs, coaching hours and coaching qualifications.

Partnering with the Leeds Children’s Hospital Charity

During the 23/24 season, Leeds Tykes is looking away from the rugby pitch and at ways to give back to the community and people around us.

The club will connect with local charities by offering our time, support with events and fundraising from various challenges.

Leeds Children's Hospital Caring about children

One of the charities the club will be partnering with is Leeds Children’s Hospital Charity. Recently Club Captain, Tom Collins, met with Helen ‘Ducky’ McDonald, a Fundraising and Engagement Officer, from the charity to discuss how the club can begin to support them.

There will be different events popping up throughout the season and we hope you will be able to support us in any way you can. They include:

  • Movember throughout November
Watch out for a Name That ‘Tash competition!
